New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on former President John Dramani Mahama to uphold and protect Ghana’s democratic institutions, warning against actions he says could undermine the country’s democracy.
In his New Year message to Ghanaians, the former Vice President expressed concern over the removal of former Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Sackey Torkornoo. Dr. Bawumia cautioned that such developments have the potential to weaken democratic governance and cause long-term damage to the foundations of Ghana’s democracy.
According to him, respect for independent state institutions remains critical to the country’s political stability and democratic progress. He urged political leaders to act responsibly and place national interest above partisan considerations.
Meanwhile, Dr. Bawumia has also turned his attention to internal party matters, calling on members of the New Patriotic Party to remain united ahead of crucial decisions.
He appealed to party delegates and supporters to rally together and elect a presidential candidate who embodies integrity, dedication, and a genuine spirit of service to the nation.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that unity within the NPP is essential for the party’s success and for presenting a credible leadership option to Ghanaians in future elections.
