The Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has stressed that Ghana’s development challenges cannot be blamed on politicians alone.
According to him, the behaviour and actions of both citizens and non-citizens equally contribute to the difficulties the country continues to face.
Speaking in an interview with UTV’s Agya Kwabena , Dr. Ato Forson explained that while government leaders must take responsibility for their decisions, the public must also acknowledge the role they play in the nation’s progress or decline.
He noted that issues such as corruption, disregard for public regulations, illegal activities, tax evasion, and environmental destruction are not caused by politicians alone, but by ordinary people whose actions directly affect national growth.
“We must all accept that the problems of Ghana are not solely political. Citizens and even non-citizens play major roles in the challenges we face. We cannot continue pointing fingers only at leaders,” he stated.
The Finance Minister urged Ghanaians to adopt a mindset of collective responsibility, emphasizing that meaningful development can only be achieved when both government and the governed commit to doing what is right.
He encouraged the public to support national policies, obey laws, protect public property, and actively participate in nation-building efforts.
Dr. Ato Forson concluded that the future of Ghana depends on a shared effort, adding that “every action whether by a politician, a citizen, or a foreigner living in Ghana has an impact on the country’s progress.”
