Ghana’s former Deputy Attorney-General, Diana Asonaba Dapaah Esq., has been honoured with the prestigious Rising Star in Law Award at the Institute for African Women in Law (IAWL) Awards Ceremony held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The event, which took place on Saturday, 22nd November 2025 at the Marriott Hotel, Melrose Arch, brought together leading personalities from the fields of law, governance, academia, and gender advocacy across the continent.
Hon. Asonaba Dapaah was celebrated for her outstanding contribution to the legal profession, her dedication to justice, and her strong leadership in championing gender equality.
The IAWL described her as “an emerging force in African legal leadership,” praising her remarkable contributions to the legal sector in Ghana and beyond. The organisation also commended the integrity and professionalism she exhibited during her tenure as Deputy Attorney-General.
Delivering a formal address at the ceremony, Prof. Jarpa Dawuni, Founder and Executive Director of IAWL, said Hon. Dapaah’s work embodies the core values the organisation is committed to promoting—excellence, equity, and the advancement of women in law.
She added that the award not only celebrates Hon. Dapaah’s achievements but also acknowledges her increasing influence as a catalyst for legal and social transformation.
The Rising Star in Law Award is one of IAWL’s flagship honours, presented to outstanding early- to mid-career African women lawyers who exhibit innovation, leadership, and a deep commitment to justice. Hon. Dapaah’s recognition places her among a distinguished group of young African jurists helping to shape the continent’s legal future.
Her honour reinforces Ghana’s growing prominence within Africa’s legal and governance circles and cements her reputation as one of the country’s most promising legal leaders.
