The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for Berekum East, Kwaku Kankam, has called on party members across the country to rally behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming presidential primaries, describing him as the right candidate to lead the party back to power in 2028.
Speaking at a constituency gathering, Mr. Kankam highlighted the NPP’s long-standing tradition of perseverance, citing the journeys of former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who both contested multiple times before securing victory.
“Our party has a proud history, one that shows perseverance and determination always lead to victory,” Mr. Kankam said. “President Kufuor contested twice before finally winning. President Akufo-Addo also contested three times before achieving success. This is a well-known part of our party’s story.”

President Akufo-Addo also contested three times before achieving success. This is a well-known part of our party’s story.”
He noted that Dr. Bawumia’s political journey mirrors this tradition, emphasizing that the Vice President’s experience and resilience make him the best candidate to restore the party’s fortunes.
“Today, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia stands in that same position. His journey reflects the very history that has shaped our great party. He is well-placed to lead us to victory in 2028,” he said. “So, why should we abandon our tradition and choose an entirely different path?”
Mr. Kankam acknowledged the challenges of being in opposition but urged party faithful to remain united and focused on the goal of returning the NPP to power.
“If we truly wish to return to power, then we must stand united behind Dr. Bawumia. If we turn our backs on him, we risk remaining in opposition for a long time,” he cautioned.
Making a passionate appeal, the Berekum East Chairman encouraged delegates to vote massively for Dr. Bawumia, who occupies the number three position on the ballot paper, symbolizing unity and strength.
“Let’s make that middle position a symbol of unity and strength,” he declared. “I am confident that the people of Berekum will once again show their loyalty and support by voting overwhelmingly for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”
Mr. Kankam concluded by reaffirming his belief that with unity and determination, the NPP would reclaim power in 2028 under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership.
